Experiential Learning

I hear and I forget
I see  and I remember
I  do  and I understand
                 - Confucius

I was first introduced to field experiential learning in education when I too the  Principles and Practice of University Teaching, a graduate level class on adult education principles, McMaster University. In this class I was introduced to problem base learning, case studies, how to facilitate discussions using good questions. This course taught me how to work WITH adult learners who bring a wealth of previous experiences to integrate these experiences in their current learning to bring a deeper understand to the material. I have continued to look into applying the different modes of experiential learning in my class including:
  • Problem based learning  (PBL) and case studies
  • Service Learning
  • Game based learning
