The University of Guelph-Humber Student Association (GHSA) Faculty Appreciation award 2012

For a professor, whose passion is teaching, to be awarded a teaching award by her students is the highest honour.
While I don't do the things I do to receive awards, I really value receiving this award because it came from my students who are letting me know what I do makes a difference to them. Which, for me, is the whole point of teaching.

Below is a brief description of the award:
"This annual award is presented to one professor from each of Guelph-Humber’s 7 programs.  Current students vote for faculty members who they believe have gone above and beyond to provide an engaging, relevant and personal learning environment for their students, both inside and outside of the classroom.  This award seeks to recognize professors who have created a positive experience for their students in an exceptional way, and to encourage them to continue to strive for excellence."

Comments made by students who nominated me for this award:
"She is always available to help and really cares about making the class as good a possible for everyone. She always comes up with new ways to present the information. She is very approachable and makes people feel comfortable. This makes it easy to ask questions and discuss topics of interest."

"Sarah has been an outstanding prof throughout my 2 years at GH, I look forward to going to her classes and always leave feeling like I have learnt even that much more in my field of study. Sarah is the type of prof that goes above and beyond her role as teacher in the classroom- she encourages and inspires her student to be the best that they possibly can,"

"Sarah does an awesome job at teaching. She keeps my attention throughout her entire lecture period, she incorporates both humor and seriousness into her lectures to make them enjoyable to attend but also intriguing. She goes out of her way at times to give us extra help towards areas of interest and is readily available to meet outside of class for extra help as well."
